The PADI Open Water Diver course is the beginner's scuba diving course and is the first full level of scuba certification. As an Open Water Diver you can experience the unique sport of scuba diving (to a depth of 60 feet) and take part in things like an exhilarating shark dive or a drift dive. Or, you can also tone it down and enjoy a casual dive along a tropical coral reef with thousands of colourful marine creatures.
The world is only 30% land - the Open Water Diver course is the first step in exploring the other 70%!

How is the course set up? The Open Water Diver course at Water Sports provides relaxed training on the basics of scuba diving in both a classroom (or online) and pool setting. Almost anybody over age 10 who's in good health can take the course.
There are 2 parts in the Open Water Diver course:
1. Knowledge Development This part may sound boring but it's important to understand the basic principles of scuba diving. You learn things such as how pressure effects your body, how to choose the best gear and how to safely plan your dives.
The Knowledge Development part of the course can be done with the Home Study & Class Review option, or online with PADI eLearning. The details of both options are outlined below.
2. Pool Dives This is what it's all about- diving! In the pool you learn everything from how to set up your gear to how to easily get water out of your mask. You also learn and practice some safety skills like sharing air, just in case.

Low Ratios: Our student-to-instructor ratios are lower than required training standards. Our low ratios guarantee that our instructors have the time to go over the skills individually with each student. This ensures that you truly understand what you're doing.
Relaxed Approach: Our experienced instructors focus on your comfort and confidence in the class and in the water. Our course includes 3 pool dive sessions so there's lots of time to master your skills without rushing.
Performance Based: Our course is based on performance, not a preset timeframe. If you and your instructors feel you could use some more training after 3 pool sessions, you get to join our next course free of charge.4

Continued Support: We're still here for you years after you finish your course. To make sure you keep diving safely and confidently after completing your certification we offer free lifetime refresher courses3 to all of our Open Water Diver student divers!
